Basic Baseboard Heat Information
Baseboard heaters offer a simple and logical way of overcoming the loss of heat from the windows, and also to supply a quick and simple method for keeping warm any part of your home.
Convenient
Basically, an electric baseboard heater is very much like any other electric heater. But their size and construction allows them to be located in more practical positions, remaining out of sight, minus the bother of moving standalone heaters around.
Baseboard heaters are broad and thin devices working on the principle of convection. The total operation can be summed up in three steps. First, cold air from the outside is sucked into the unit thru vents provided along the base. The cold air on getting heated rises to the top and finally gets blown out from the vents near the top to heat the surroundings. This type of equipment is ideally positioned along baseboards, thus remaining out of the way, and at times hidden.
Types of Heaters
There are a quite a few variations of these heaters, and the most popular ones are electric, hydronic, and electric hydronic.
Electric heaters are the simplest of them all, as they just need connection to an electric source, and can therefore be kept in any part of the house without any difficulty in their installation. The electric current heats the coils to deliver warm air, which is circulated in the room by use of a fan provided therein.
Hydronic units employ hot water for heating the air, which works out to be more economical than the electric edition. Of course, it is good to be economical, as it not only saves your electricity expenses but also the environments. But, they need to be connected to a water heater and that makes their installation somewhat difficult compared to electric heaters.
To a good extent baseboard hydronic electric heaters succeed in providing the best of both worlds. While continuing to function like standard hydronic heaters, they do not need a direct connection to a water heater, as they are self-contained with a water reservoir, which gets heated internally by electric current. They are designed to work more efficiently than using just electric power alone, but are also very easy to get started, as all they need is supply of electricity.
Covers
Lest they become too conspicuous to by and large dominate the ambience or décor of your room, hydronic baseboard heaters are available in various covers that can either hide, or carry on with the overall design of the setting. You can select one of the general styles, or get them made as per your specifications.
